  1. “…why is it that every time Bedales doesn’t allow students to return it is branded as ‘another scandal’?”

The point my dear blogger is to highlight the fact that over recent years and past decades Bedales has repeatedly proven itself unable to deal with the results of children/young adults who are allowed to roam free on an academic and social level.

As to your confidence in the assertion that “…there genuinely is no better school to educate your children” you should talk to the parents of children currently attending Bedales and to those who have in the past, paying huge fees for a mediocre education. For that matter why don’t you contact the majority of past pupils who, out of the Bedale’s super bubble, have to come to terms with the fact that their existence in the real world, beyond the gate at Church Road, is no barrel of fun and yes they actually have to compete, against better educated and more world wise contemporaries.

“The open-minded atmosphere of the school allows for students to develop into individual free-thinking adults with outstanding critical analysis skills.” Maybe, but I suspect the minority of those who do possess this skill set have these attributes as a result of innate ability and not because they attended Bedales. I’ve seen 17/18 year old girls and boys come out of Bedales and completely flounder when their pretentious cushion has been removed.

“The school champions individuality and nonconformist behaviour allowing students to reach their own potential.” By their nature children/teenagers are non-conformist they don’t need help to tune-up this part of their character.

“Surely, if you can afford it, it’s the best solution that money can buy.” Compared to which other schools? Marlborough, Millfield, Wellington, the list goes on and on.

“I wish I’d had the opportunity to go there,” says an enthusiastic Sussex father, whose daughter has been at the school for the last few years. Alternatively another not so enthusiastic Sussex father quoted in the Daily Mail ‘I sent my daughter to Dunhurst because of its good reputation. It seemed like a perfect place for her to establish herself. I thought it was a safe environment. But I don’t want to be spending £30,000 a year sending my child to a school that allows this sort of nonsense to go on.’

I concur with “The teaching staff are so dedicated and have the students interests at heart”. However, woe betide the teacher/member of staff who steps out of line with the ethos and rules espoused from the management above. Liberal, I don’t think so!

You mention “The entire student body embrace academia…” That’s wonderful. Let us see how the results for A Levels pan-out in the coming weeks. I’m sure they’ll be a true reflection of this bastion of academic excellence and free thought.

As we’re the subject of academia why don’t Bedales introduce some “exotic” languages such as Mandarin and Spanish as part of the curriculum?

The more I read the remaining and boring diatribe that is your blog the more I feel that you’re no more a pupil than I am. You’re glorification of the school goes beyond a sixth former – I thought you’re meant to be a free thinker, a non-conformist. You seem to be singing from the same sheet as the blurb on Bedales website. You certainly don’t engender that sense of independent, cerebral analysis you mention in your piece - more like bad newscaster reading autocue.

As for your “Clever ’eh?” quip there’s nothing clever about children stealing alcohol and having sex in the quarry.

Maybe you’ll find out when you grow up, get a job and have children. If you haven’t already!

    FireCracker.
